Job Description:

The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) will provide strategic leadership and oversight for the nursing services of a large medical institution. This chief nursing officer job involves shaping the vision and direction for nursing practice, ensuring high standards of care, and aligning nursing services with the institution’s overall goals. The chief nursing officer will work closely with other senior leaders, including physicians and administrators, to develop and implement policies, programs, and procedures that enhance patient care and support the professional development of the nursing staff. 

Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) or related field; Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) or Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) preferred. 
  • Current RN licensure in the state of employment; Nurse Executive Certification (NE-BC) or equivalent preferred. 
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive nursing leadership experience, including at least 5 years in an executive or senior management role in a large medical institution. 
  • Proven ability to lead and manage large teams of nursing professionals. 
  • Strong strategic planning, organizational, and decision-making skills. 
  • Expertise in healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and quality improvement practices. 
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills. 
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, including extended hours and occasional travel. 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategic vision and goals for nursing services in alignment with the institution’s mission and objectives. 
  • Oversee the recruitment, training, and professional development of nursing staff across the institution. 
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards related to nursing practice. 
  • Establish and monitor quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety. 
  • Collaborate with other senior leaders to develop and execute institutional policies and procedures. 
  • Manage the nursing budget and allocate resources effectively to meet patient care needs. 
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment to promote staff retention and job satisfaction. 
  • Represent the institution in professional organizations, conferences, and community events. 

Pay Rate:

$160,000 - $250,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
