Job Description:

The Geriatric Nurse specializes in providing compassionate and comprehensive care to elderly patients, focusing on their unique medical and emotional needs. This geriatric nurse job involves working in various settings such as nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and hospitals. The Geriatric Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, and implementing care for aging patients, managing chronic conditions, and enhancing their quality of life. This position requires a deep understanding of geriatric healthcare issues, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with both patients and their families.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited nursing program. 
  • Current RN licensure in the state of employment; Geriatric Nursing Certification (e.g., Gerontological Nurse Certification (RN-BC)) preferred. 
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in geriatric nursing or related field; experience in long-term care or hospice care preferred. 
  • In-depth knowledge of aging-related conditions and treatments. 
  • Strong assessment and critical thinking skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple chronic conditions in elderly patients. 
  • Excellent communication skills and empathy. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team. 
  • Ability to lift and move patients, stand for extended periods, and perform physical tasks associated with patient care. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct nursing care to elderly patients, including administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and managing chronic conditions. 
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans tailored to the specific needs of each patient. 
  • Assess patient health and make necessary adjustments to care plans based on changes in condition. 
  • Educate patients and their families about health conditions, treatment options, and care strategies. 
  • Coordinate with physicians, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care. 
  • Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) and provide emotional support to patients. 
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and documentation. 
  • Promote a safe and comfortable environment for elderly patients and advocate for their needs and preferences.

Pay Rate:

$30 - $45 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
