Job Description:

The Charge Nurse is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a nursing unit or department. This charge nurse role involves managing and coordinating patient care, supervising nursing staff, and ensuring that clinical practices comply with hospital policies and regulatory standards. The charge nurse job also includes charge nurse responsibilities such as serving as a key liaison between patients, families, and the healthcare team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with a focus on nursing leadership; BSN preferred. 
  • Current RN licensure in the state of employment; certification in a relevant specialty (e.g., ACLS, PALS) may be required. 
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of nursing experience with a proven track record of leadership or supervisory roles. 
  • Strong leadership and management skills. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. 
  • Proficiency in clinical assessment and decision-making. 
  • Ability to handle complex and emergency situations effectively. 
  • Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and perform tasks related to patient care and unit management. 

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of nursing staff on the unit, including scheduling, training, and performance evaluations. 
  • Ensure that patient care is delivered according to established standards and protocols. 
  • Manage patient admissions, discharges, and transfers within the unit. 
  • Serve as a resource and support to nursing staff, providing guidance and resolving clinical issues as they arise. 
  • Conduct patient assessments, review care plans, and make necessary adjustments to ensure optimal patient outcomes. 
  • Facilitate effective communication between patients, families, and the healthcare team. 
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of medical supplies and equipment. 
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety regulations, and infection control procedures. 
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of unit policies and procedures. 
  • Handle administrative tasks, including documentation and reporting of patient care and staff activities. 

Pay Rate:

$40 - $55 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
