Job Description:

As a Hospice Nurse, you will provide compassionate, end-of-life care to patients with terminal illnesses and support to their families. This hospice nurse job involves managing pain and symptoms, providing emotional support, and ensuring comfort for patients in their final stages of life. The Hospice Nurse role requires a deep understanding of palliative care principles, the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, and a commitment to delivering empathetic care during challenging times. 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited nursing program. 
  • Current RN licensure in the state of employment; Certification in Hospice and Palliative Nursing (CHPN) preferred or obtained within 2 years of hire. 
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of nursing experience; experience in hospice or palliative care preferred. 
  • Proficient in pain management and symptom control. 
  • Strong communication skills to provide support to patients and families. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team. 
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to end-of-life care. 
  • Ability to lift and move patients, perform physical tasks related to patient care, and endure periods of emotional and physical stress.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in their homes, nursing homes, or hospice facilities. 
  • Manage pain and other distressing symptoms to ensure comfort and quality of life for patients. 
  • Educate patients and families about the hospice care process, including symptom management, care planning, and emotional support. 
  • Coordinate with physicians, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to create and implement individualized care plans. 
  • Offer emotional and psychological support to patients and families during the end-of-life process. 
  • Document patient care activities, changes in condition, and family interactions in electronic health records. 
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient progress and care plans. 
  • Provide support and education to family members on patient care and bereavement. 

Pay Rate:

$30 - $45 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
