Job Description:

As a School Nurse, you will play a crucial role in promoting the health and well-being of students within a school setting. Your responsibilities will include providing direct healthcare services, managing chronic conditions, conducting health screenings, and serving as a liaison between the school, families, and healthcare providers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in pediatric or community health nursing, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a school environment. 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program; School Nurse Certification (where applicable). 
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of employment; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. 
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in pediatric, community health, or school nursing. 
  • Strong clinical assessment skills. 
  • Knowledge of child development and public health principles. 
  • Proficiency in health education and counseling. 
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, school staff, and healthcare providers. 
  • Ability to perform physical tasks associated with patient care, including standing for long periods, lifting, and responding to emergencies. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct healthcare services to students, including first aid, emergency care, and management of chronic health conditions. 
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed and ensure proper documentation. 
  • Conduct health screenings, such as vision, hearing, and scoliosis checks, and refer students for further evaluation as needed. 
  • Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans (IHPs) for students with special healthcare needs. 
  • Educate students, staff, and parents on health-related topics, including hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention. 
  • Monitor and manage communicable diseases within the school, following public health guidelines. 
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student health records. 
  • Serve as a liaison between the school, families, and healthcare providers to coordinate care and address health concerns. 
  • Participate in school health policy development and contribute to a healthy and safe school environment. 

Pay Rate:

$25 - $35 per hour, depending on experience and location.
